Founders of Ubuntu
Andrea Drottholm
After teaching all these years what inspires me the most is to watch people using yoga to transform themselves and grow into their fullness. It’s an honor to be a part of that process and guide them along.. Ubuntu was born from that inspiration as a haven where people can find the tools to work on themselves and go deeper into their unfolding. We provide yoga practice but also courses in yoga philosophy, anatomy, breathwork, meditation, permaculture and creative arts, all in a beautiful garden setting.
At Ubuntu we are aware that the classic model of “rugged individualism” supported by capitalism brought us and the world where we are now; on the brink of an ecological disaster, where people can hardly live together and seek more and more isolation, dissociated from their body and feelings and addicted to smoke screens of fantasy reality and
advertisements.. And so we sought in our small ways to contribute our part toward healing this broken world by helping people reconnect with themselves, with others and nature.
Damien de Bastier
Tari’s journey with yoga began ten years ago. Under the guidance of
Damien and Andrea, and inspired by the philosophy of “Yoga Beyond Asana,” she experienced a profound personal shift. What began as a practice gradually unfolded into a path of self-discovery, reconnecting her to a more grounded and authentic way of living. It ultimately led her to leave a decade-long career in fashion and hospitality to dedicate herself to the practice of Ashtanga Yoga.
With a background in business and communication, majoring in Public Relations, people are naturally drawn to her fun, curious, and
adventurous spirit. She finds joy in meaningful connections and
supporting others in their growth and learning, embracing life itself as the greatest teacher and remaining forever a student on the path.
With a deep love for Ubuntu and the values it holds, stepping into the role of partner and co-owner felt like a natural progression. Both on and off the mat, she continues to serve the community with kindness and humility. At the heart of her journey are the people she loves most, whose guidance and support remain a constant source of inspiration and gratitude.
Andréa grew up in Sweden and, at 19, set out to explore the world,
eventually living, studying, and working in more than 12 countries.
Along the way, she learned several languages and is now able to teach in Spanish, German, French, Indonesian, English, Swedish, and Hungarian.
A natural entrepreneur, she started her first business at four years old, selling flowers to local grandmothers so she could buy her own candy. She later worked in the tourism industry, including on cruise ships, and ran her own apartment-rental agency in Barcelona. In 2002, seeking more balance in her life, she began practicing Ashtanga Yoga with her first teacher, Diane Bell. What started as a way to stay fit soon became something much deeper. After several trips to Mysore, India to study yoga, she eventually chose to change her life in order to support others on and off the mat as a yoga teacher and life coach.
In 2021, she and Damien set the intention to focus on community
building. Sharing their love for Ashtanga Yoga and its many teachings, Ubuntu Bali was born from a desire to give back the blessings yoga had brought into their lives.
